What Guides Us
For nearly 70 years, Horning has been part of the greater Washington, DC region. We’ve grown alongside the neighborhoods we serve and built relationships along the way. Through all that has changed, one thing has remained constant: we care about the people and places that make our region what it is.
As we look toward the future, we’ve put words around that commitment through our vision, mission, and core values.
Our Vision
To be an exceptional partner, creating enduring value for generations to come by championing inclusive, thriving communities across greater Washington, DC.
To us, being an exceptional partner means being someone people can count on, whether that’s a resident, a colleague, a business partner, or a member of the community.
“We’re fortunate to have been part of this region for so long,” says Jamie Weinbaum, CEO and President of Horning. “As we look ahead, we want to continue earning the trust of the people we work with and investing in places that will remain important to the region for years to come.”
Our Mission
At Horning, we draw on decades of experience and strategic investment to develop, operate, and preserve housing and community spaces across diverse neighborhoods. With integrity and heart, we create and foster dynamic environments where people can connect, grow, and thrive.
Our work takes place in many different neighborhoods, with people who have different needs, experiences, and perspectives. That’s something we value. We don’t believe there’s one formula for creating a great place to live or work. It takes listening, paying attention to what people need, and being willing to invest in a place over time.
And while the work we do is grounded in real estate, we believe it should always be grounded in people, too. That’s where the “integrity and heart” in our mission comes in. We want to approach our work thoughtfully, treat people with respect, and take pride in the places we have a role in shaping.
Our four core values put those ideas into practice:
Community Focus
We keep people at the center of our work and look for ways to make a positive difference in the neighborhoods we serve.
Collaboration
We bring different perspectives to the table, listen to one another, and work together toward better outcomes.
Integrity
We build trust by being honest, following through, and doing the right thing—even when it’s not the easiest thing.
Empowerment
We trust our people to use their expertise, share their ideas, and take ownership of their work.
These values aren’t just words. Rather, they are a reminder of how we want to show up for our residents, our partners, our colleagues, and the neighborhoods we call home.
All of this comes together as a guide for the work we do every day: the places we create and care for are about people and the communities we’re fortunate enough to be part of.
