DAVID ROODBERG, HORNING BROTHERS CEO, ANNOUNCES PLANS TO STEP DOWN IN EARLY 2023

(Washington, DC) June 22, 2022—Horning Brothers announced today that the firm’s president and CEO David Roodberg will step down on March 1, 2023.  This date enables an orderly transition to the next leader of this 60-year-old real estate company that develops and manages residential, retail and mixed-use communities throughout the Washington D.C. region.  Horning Brothers has retained Ellen Klasson of real estate advisory, RCLCO, to conduct the executive search.

During his 20 years as the top executive of Horning Brothers, Roodberg provided leadership to complete Tivoli Square, a project spearheaded by company co-founder Joe Horning, which helped jumpstart development in Columbia Heights.  Roodberg also oversaw the construction and development of The Commons at Stanton Square, a campus that is home to the Ward 8 community-serving nonprofits  Martha’s Table and Community of Hope. Both projects were honored by the Washington Business Journal with Best Real Estate Deals for Community Impact.

“It has been my great honor to serve as Horning’ president and CEO for two decades. Now is the right time for my family and me to make a bold transition—all made possible because of the strong team in place at Horning Brothers,” Roodberg said. “Founder Joe Horning’s legacy continues through the company’s core principles of empowerment, collaboration, community-focus and integrity”

“David has been an extraordinary leader who has shared the vision, commitment, and principles held by our family. Under his leadership, we have consistently fulfilled our mission to develop and manage high quality residential apartment communities and retail centers, and to be engaged members of the greater Washington community.  David leaves us positioned for a continued bright future,” said Joseph Horning III, Chairman of the company.
